Twins Quarterly Update | 1 3/4 years...

...In true fashion for 2017, I'm late on this update, but only a couple weeks or so. So, I feel like that's a win.

  • Stats:
    • 19 1/2 mo. adjusted!
    • Mostly 6-12 mo. and 12-18 mo. clothing (depending on the brand)
    • Size 4 diapers
    • Hazel: no new stats, but 2 new teeth! Your incisors came in and all your teeth are officially accounted for.
    • Scarlett: no new stats for you either, but your bottom left tooth and two incisors are finally busting through as I type!
  • Schedule:
    • 6:45-7:30 Wake!  Your are pretty content to hang out in your cribs still, and big sister has started going in to entertain you both. It's perfect on Saturdays because mommy and daddy get to lay in bed a little longer before starting the day. You go down for between 7-7:30.
    • On work days, I wake you up at 6:15 and you are ready for bed at 7!
    • You both take one long nap in the afternoon now. There are some mornings where I feel like you'd still benefit from a morning nap- but we push through. You will definitely fall asleep in the car if we're running morning errands though.
  • Eating:
    • You have about one cup of milk every other day, but mostly drink water.
    • You will eat pretty much anything, but definitely are toddlers and like one thing one day and hate it the next.
    • My big goal in life, though, is to get everyone eating THE SAME family dinners together. Instead of making 3 toddler dinners and something separate for mommy and daddy.
  • Sleep: You both bless me more than you know! You continue to be rockstar sleepers!
  • Potty Training: Not even thinking about it.
  • Personality:
    • Nicknames:
      • Scarlett: Scar, Scarly, Scarletta Gene, Scarlett Genie, Little Lett, Lettie Lou
      • Hazel: Hazel Pie, Hazey, H.L., Haze-elle, Crazy Hazey
    • Hazel- You had a rough go of it when you were teething with those incisors. My happy Hazel was gone and replaced with a grumpy, moody little girl. Thankfully that passed. You are so, so girly. You love to put on twirly skirts, dance, sing, and play with your make-up and bows. Your happy to do your own thing play solo. You still love to put on a show and make us laugh.
    • Scarlett- You are so, so sassy! Goodness. you can give us the stink face and tell us no without batting an eye. But you are also so, so sweet. Giving hugs and kisses. I'd say you're the most sensitive of the 3 girls. You hate being told no, hate not getting your way. You also LOVE to help- you clean up and share and bring us things to "help" us. It's so sweet. Our favorite game right now is to ask you questions that we know you'll say no to. Like, "Scarlett, did you poop?" and you will respond, "no, no, no." It is hilarious.
    • You both throw epic fits. Very impressive arching of the backs, throwing yourselves on the floor and screaming. I do my best to ignore, but sometimes I just laugh.
  • Friends/Relationships:
    • Same- You both love your mommy, daddy, and big sister. You are super leery of strangers and do not like change. You're comfortable going to your class at church, but still scream bloody murder and take a death grip when a babysitter comes into our house.
    • On the Twin thing: We have the best videos these past months of your interactions....holding hands and giggle as you run around the house together, washing each others hair in the bath, giving one another the best hugs and kisses.
  • Discipline:
    • Time outs have started. Mostly for throwing your food on the floor. Meal times may be the death of me! Ugh! You both hate being told no and getting in trouble and will swing your arms and try to hit things and yourselves. It used to be only Scarlett that would hit herself, but Hazel has caught on. As has big sis who likes to do it when she's in trouble now. Monkey see, Monkey do.
  • Play: You both love dancing, singing, coloring, BEING OUTSIDE, trying to do what sister does, climbing on everything, playing with buckles/latches, and BABIES!!
  • Speak/Communication: Your receptive language is super impressive. I'm always amazed at what can be understood at this age. You're starting to string some of your words together like, "bye-bye daddy", and "hi, gi gi".
  • Development and Learning:
    • Hazel, you love to sing the ABC's. You bob your head from side to side.
    • You both clean up your messes and sing the "clean-up song"
    • You're fine motor skills are getting better, as evidenced by your coloring!
  • Other big events:
    • Hazel, you managed to have the flu and strep simultaneously. It was terrible.
    • You both had bad stomach bugs.
  • Parent Struggles: I actually have the same struggles (first 2, and one new one). Throwing your food on the ground and banging your milk and fork. Ugh. These things drive me nuts! Disguising your mullets is another struggle. They are terrible. but I refuse to do haircuts until age 2. :) Your tantrums/hitting things and yourselves.
  • Prayers: Father God, we pray for these little lives. The hearts of Hazel and Scarlett. We pray you have set them apart and called them children of God. That they will know you from an early age and be obedient to your will. Amen.
