Twins' Quarterly Update | 1 1/2 Years...

Here are your Highlights and Stats from the last 3 months! (This is about a month late now since I had to keep pushing back your dr. appt.)

(Don't mind our mullets!)

  • Stats:
    • 16 1/2 mo. adjusted!
    • Mostly 6-12 mo. clothing, some 12-18 mo.
    • Size 3 diapers
    • Both of your stats are on the adjusted scale
    • Hazel: height: 30.9in (32%tile), weight: 21lbs1oz (33%tile), and head 61%tile. You have all your 1 yr molars, 4 bottom front and 4 top front teeth...your incisors are ready to bust through at any moment!
    • Scarlett: height: 29.9in (10%tile), weight: 20lbs (20%tile), and head 61%tile. You have all your 1 yr molars, 4 top front and 3 bottom front teeth...your top two incisors are starting to break through.
  • Schedule:
    • 6:45-7:30 Wake! Scarlett you are still always the first one up, sometimes 20-30 minutes before Hazel. Hazel, you would sleep until 10, I'm convinced. We often have to go wake you at 8:30 on the weekends. You're both usually fine just hanging out and babbling. I don't get you out of your cribs until 7/7:15 if you wake up early.
    • On work days, I wake you up at 6:15 and you are ready for bed at 7!
    • You have slowly been transitioning to one nap, and over the last two weeks, we are officially there. Depending on the day you'll cat nap in the car in the morning running errands, but if we're home, naps usually occur about 1:30. Scarlett you sleep about 2 hours, Hazel we usually wake you after 3. You are definitely our girl that loves sleep!
  • Eating:
    • Goodness, so much changed in this area in the last 3 months. You both drink milk in the morning (you rarely finish a cup), and occasionally at night. It's water the rest of the day. Neither of you love milk the way Grey did, and I'm fine with that because I prefer you don't drink it anyway.
    • You both will eat about anything I give you. You're starting to get a little "toddler picky" but I have taken a different approach this round and if you don't eat it, you don't eat. I'm trying to not create a "Grey monster" in the eating dept. Oh, how wise your momma is this time around, ha! You both are growing and gaining weight so I'm not concerned about you missing a meal if you refuse to eat.
    • All that to say, you both have your preferences. You're kind of ying and yang when it comes to food. Hazel, you LOVE veggies and won't touch a fruit if it's not in a pouch. You are all about the savory. Scarlett, fruits are totally your jam, and veggies, not so much- unless they're hidden in a pouch. You're all about the sweet. You both LOVE mac'n'cheese. Like, LOVE it. I have to secretly cook it, because you if you get a glimpse of the blue Annie's box you lose your minds!
    • One meal we can all share together right now that EVERYONE likes is rotisserie chicken and roasted veggies.
    • Sleep: You both bless me more than you know! You continue to be rockstar sleepers!
    • Potty Training: Not even thinking about it.
    • Personality:
      • Nicknames:
        • Scarlett: Scar, Scarly, Scarletta Gene, Scarlett Genie, Little Lett, Lettie Lou
        • Hazel: Hazel Pie, Hazey, H.L., Haze-elle, Crazy Hazey
        • Hazel- You are definitely the more dominant twin and you remind me so much of your daddy. You like to take things from Scarlett, scream when you don't get your way, you love to climb and explore and are always ready for an adventure. You LOVE to make us laugh and will do things over and over to keep us giggling. You make the silliest faces and love to engage us in games.  You immediately bob your head to any beat, song, melody. You are also a major mama's girl. You don't go to others very well and definitely prefer me. I'm totally okay with this! You are the one that will do your own thing and play independently.
        • Scarlett- You are definitely more laid back and cautious than Hazel. But you are no wallflower. You get fiery when Hazel takes your things and you let her know by screaming and crying. I anticipate some serious fights in the future. You are very skeptical and super observant, always checking things out and a little slower to share your sweet smile. You love books and DANCING! You bob your head and move your body when music comes one. You are also very sensitive, crying if Hazel cries, or going over to Grey in time out to pat-pat her or try and play with her. You're so, so sweet. And you love to whine. About everything. Oh-my. You HATE being told no and will cry, cry, cry. You make the funniest faces- lots of stink faces, looks of disgust, sweet smiles. You love to snuggle up to me right after bath all wrapped in your towel.
      • Friends/Relationships:
        • Same- You both love your mommy, daddy, and big sister. You are super leery of strangers and do not like change. You're comfortable going to your class at church, but still scream bloody murder and take a death grip when a babysitter comes into our house. You just moved up to the next level at school since you're both walking. Hazel, this was hardest for you the first week, but by the second week you were fine. Then, Scarlett, you decided to start crying at drop off.
        • On the Twin thing: It is so fun watching the two of you. You still mostly just irritate one another by stealing toys, but you have the sweetest moments of chatter, pat-pats, and are starting to give each other kisses. You love poking each other's eyes and saying "eye". You also love mimicking the other, you'll copy anything the other does, especially if it's getting attention from someone. You also love to play with or do whatever the other is playing.
      • Discipline:
        • Right now, we are just working on setting limits and making sure you know we're serious. You're both doing better when we say no and not continuing with that behavior. I'm thinking time-outs are not too far away.
      • Play: Let's see, dress-up and dancing, playing outside, coloring, and books are your favorites. Scarlett, you love playing with little things like people and food in the kitchen. Hazel, stickers are your jam. We find them EVERYWHERE. You also really love babies. Both of your love to be covered up now and bring blankets to me all the time.
      • Speak/Communication: You are both pointing at things when we ask and pointing at things to ask us what they are. You try to repeat most words when we ask (if you're in the mood). Words you know well: eye, mommy, dada, grey-grey, dog, ball, blanket ("ba"), some animal sounds, milk ("ma"), cracker, bye-bye. You can do please, more, and all done in sign-language. You are also both following simple commands! I love receptive language!
      • Development and Learning:
        • Hazel, you started walking on November 8th, Scarlett, December 12th.
        • You're both imitating lots of things, from talking, to washing your hands, to putting on lotion, blinking your eyes.
        • You're getting better at using forks!
        • You're learning to clean-up! Hazel you are really doing this and it makes my momma heart so happy!
      • Other big events:
        • You both had bronchitis around Thanksgiving. Scarlett, yours turned to pnemonia and we ended up in the ER after a high fever. Scarlett, you also had strep throat in January. These illnesses created some days at home all by yourselves, thus your first big separations from one another. Which you both handled wonderfully.
      • Parent Struggles: Throwing your food on the ground and banging your milk and fork. Ugh. These things drive me nuts! Disguising your mullets is another struggle. They are terrible. but I refuse to do haircuts until age 2. :)
      • Prayers: We pray that you will both know the love of our Father at an early age. That he will develop a passion in you early and that you will use your gifts to glorify him in all you do. We also pray fervently for your relationships as sisters. That the 3 of you will be one anothers' biggest encouragers, that you'll love each other big and unconditionally, and spur one another on toward love and good deeds.
      Hazel- stickers EVERYWHERE!

       Sweet Scarlett Gene.
